WEBSITE PUBLISHING & MANAGEMENT

Many people design websites for their own small businesses and organizations, or simply for a way to publish family information for relatives anywhere in the world to access. At this point an old saying “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” comes to mind. It is very true that almost anyone who knows how to use a word processor can design a website using any of several available programs, or through specialty websites, some of which are free! But as information grows and graphics and picture requirements increase, what started as a simple “document” begins to get very complicated and cumbersome. If you are a company or organization this website becomes your “face” to the world. The web is littered with tens of thousands of outdated, incomplete and disjointed websites that all started with the designers good intentions. Websites require planning, design, re-design and in many cases frequent updates to keep the information valid and fresh. Let’s face it, if you go to the same site week after week and it never changes, you will eventually stop visiting it. The web is intended to be a “dynamic” place that requires change to only one location for distribution to the “world”.

After a site is published to the web it sits there on some providers host hard drive waiting for “hits”. At this point “website management” begins to be a necessity. For websites to be found you should publish your web address on paper and distribute to your intended audience. This can be in the form of business cards, printed announcements, posters or letterheads. This works fine if you have easy access to your intended customer through mailings or advertising. By far the best way of getting “hits” is to register your site with a majority of search engines that people would use to search out your services. There are hundreds of search engines on the web. Some are specific to particular topics and many are generic in their capability to find information on the web. If you simply publish a site and sit and wait, these search engines may eventually find your site. But this could be months and months down the road. And worse yet, you may be listed so far down the search list that no one will find you. Through specific registration and installing “key words” on the website the possibility of a search engine finding your website can be greatly enhanced.

Finally, a very important aspect of your website is the feedback you can get from the “user”. By carefully designing an email feedback system a site can capture essential information to guide its development over time. Remember, a static site that does not change will lose its audience over time.

At WebFox Studios we have the knowledge and capability to accomplish all of the above. We would be happy to work with you at any point along your journey on the World Wide Web.
